Business Boot Camp for young entrepreneurs!

Posted on:

It began with a dream. What learning opportunities could we create for students with respect to business and career development? Who could we work with to make this opportunity a valuable and engaging option for students?

As part of the Whitecourt Youth Career Advisory Committee, we met to present and share ideas … and … the Mavericks of Whitecourt Business and Entrepreneurial Boot Camp was born!

BE YOUR OWN BOSS, BUILD YOUR OWN EMPIRE, PROFIT FROM YOUR PASSIONS AND EARN HIGH SCHOOL CREDITS!

Since then other partners have come on board including Community Futures, the Alberta Government, the Town of Whitecourt, Woodlands County and Living Waters Catholic Schools. We believe our community partners and members offer relevant, right now experience that will greatly enhance the learning of participating students.

ONLY 20 SPACES AVAILABLE! Hilltop students can see Ms. Hleck for details!

Students in Grades 9 through 12 are encouraged to apply to participate in this FREE 5 day business boot camp which will take place in October. Community Futures has designed the curriculum for this boot camp to align with Alberta Education’s Program of Studies.

Students can earn one to three credits for their participation, from the Business, Administration, Finance & Information Technology (BIT) Cluster of the Career & Technology Studies (CTS) Program of Study, focused on Enterprise and Innovation!

What will they learn?

From start-up to implementation, students will learn key business skills like communication skills, resume building and how to develop and write proposals and a Business Plan. Keynote speakers will offer up solid advice and inspiration alongside Customer Service and Leadership Development presentations by Norquest College.

PITCH YOUR BUSINESS IDEA DURING SMALL BUSINESS WEEK!

Students will also have the opportunity to receive real feedback on their business plans from a panel of community business leaders during Small Business Week (think Dragon’s Den)!

OCTOBER 5-7 & 13-14 AT HILLTOP HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY

DEADLINE TO APPLY IS SEPTEMBER 30.
