Beth Jager, Assistant Principal at Mayerthorpe Jr/Sr High School (MHS) will receive the Sovereign’s Medal for volunteers, which recognizes outstanding Canadians from across the country.

The idea of nominating Beth for this award came to MHS Principal Brent Northcott after hearing NGPS Trustee Albert Schalm compliment Beth on the countless hours she spends at the school volunteering her time for our students. 

Principal Northcott shares, “Beth contributes so much to the MHS community through coaching and being involved in multiple sports. This year alone she has coached Senior Boys Basketball and Track and Field, and served as the staff advisor to the Senior Boys Volleyball team. Beth has spent most weekends of the school year traveling to a sporting event somewhere in Alberta in support of our students. This is over and above any expectations placed upon her in her role as Athletic Director for MHS.  Beth also sits on the Mayerthorpe Youth Justice Committee as Chairperson and selflessly contributes numerous hours in support of local youth through sports and keeping them on track through the Justice Committee. She is very deserving of this award.” 

The award is given to Canadian citizens who have made significant, sustained and unpaid contributions to their community in Canada or abroad.

Ms. Jager is honoured by the recognition, “It gives me a personal satisfaction to help people. The look on their faces when they receive the help or support they need is my reward, so this is unexpected and a huge honour.”

Beth Jager has been the Assistant Principal at MHS for the past seven years.  The Sovereign’s Medal will be presented to Beth and other recipients some time in the Fall.
