It’s official! The community of Valleyview will be getting a new, state of the art K-12 public school thanks to Alberta’s funding commitment in the 2023-24 Budget, and the countless hands, hearts and minds who have advocated and worked for this outcome since 2016.

The new K-12 school will be built to replace Oscar Adolphson Primary, Harry Gray Elementary and Hillside Jr/Sr High Schools. Situated ideally beside the Greenview Regional Multiplex, the new school will provide modern learning facilities for Valleyview and area students, ensuring students, today, and long into the future, have the space and facility they need to learn and be successful.

“The announcement represents so much - for past, present and future students, for the community, and for everyone involved," commented NGPS Superintendent Kevin Bird. "It also represents possibility - for the future of learning in Valleyview and for schools and partners to work together to continue to support and build opportunity in the community.” 

The Division would like to acknowledge the work, planning, vision and advocacy that has turned this Capital Plan Priority into a reality, including:

• the Honourable Todd Loewen, Minister of Forestry, Parks and Tourism and MLA for Central Peace-Notley. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to this project and to rural education; 
• the Town of Valleyview, MD of Greenview and community at large. Thank you for dreaming alongside us, and for your support and collaboration going forward;
• our NGPS Trustees and Administrators, past and present, and Director of Maintenance Randy Lovich. Thank you for your foresight in securing the land for the school and for your years of consultation, proposals, work and advocacy with the Province.

Together with the Board of NGPS, we know that this project will serve the needs of many from surrounding areas like Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, Little Smoky and Sunset House. A plan for student, staff and community consultation will be released in the next week.

NGPS serves approximately 800 learners in Valleyview and area.
