Student Success program growing at Percy Baxter!

The Student Success Academy (SSA) is a new enrichment program at Percy Baxter School that takes a holistic approach to supporting students in their learning with a focus on Math, Literacy, Wellness, and Social-Emotional Learning.
Currently, Grade 7 and 8 students work in cohorts to develop and enhance foundational skills. Principal Dikaitis is pleased to see positive results already with increasing student success:
“The idea behind the program is to support students in attaining foundational skills, including physical training and those social-emotional skills that help us to succeed in all areas of life, like practicing a growth mindset, pushing ourselves outside our comfort zone, failing forward, and cultivating discipline and confidence.”
Percy Baxter hopes to expand the SSA program next year to include a Grade 6 and 7 cohort for students who want to excel both academically and athletically. This initiative will focus on the psychology of success, growth mindset, and high-performance development.
A day in the class: during our visit, students explored the concept of neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to change and adapt due to experience), and how we can effect positive changes through our thoughts (mindset) and habits. Students finished off the class with a work out and meditation circle where they were challenged to flex their brain in an unfamiliar way! Check out that gym!
