Onoway Jr/Sr High gets School Resource Officer

Posted on:

Onoway Junior Senior High School (OHS) is excited to welcome a new member to their school community. RCMP Constable Shamir Javer joined the school as their first ever School Resource Officer shortly before the Christmas Break. Constable Javer will be splitting his time this year between OHS and St. Peter the Apostle Catholic High School in Spruce Grove.

School Resource Officers bring a visible presence to the school and greater community through continual interaction, mentoring, class presentations and distribution of educational resource materials.

Mark McCrudden, Principal at St. Peter the Apostle CHS commented, “We look forward to Constable Javer becoming an integral part of our school community and to working together to help students. Constable Javer will have an important role in educating students about the law and providing students with information to make positive life choices that may impact both themselves and the community.”

Constable Javer has been working with the Stony Plain and Spruce Grove RCMP for the last three years. He is excited about the opportunity and looking forward to the year ahead.

Working cooperatively with school administration, staff, students, parents, and the community, Constable Javer will help to proactively identify and address school concerns and to build relationships between communities, schools and the police.

OHS Principal John Lobo commented, “We welcome Constable Javer’s enthusiasm and ability to enhance connections between students and the RCMP. We look forward to his contribution over the coming year.”
